MOVEMENT FILM

The film weaves together visuals from movement interviews—where participants respond to verbal prompts through embodied gestures—and a performance piece created as a response to these shared movements. Conducted with 11 individuals, the interviews were guided by key decisions made during a collaborative, two-day experimental process between the artist and Jasmine Yadav, a performance artist, dance movement therapy colleague, and friend. Together, they shaped the questions and verbal cues that would guide each participant’s responses. The interviews, conducted at locations chosen by each individual, were filmed with a free-hand camera approach, allowing both the artist and the camera to act as unobtrusive witnesses to each participant’s movement.

Following a review of the visual material, the artist developed a sound prompt, which was then sent to a group of individuals. Each person contributed their own soundscape response, ideally crafted using only their body as an instrument. These sound responses were woven together to create the film’s soundscape, underscoring the imagery throughout, except in the end credits, which feature a Tibetan Singing Bowl music piece by Anthony Tilotta.

Delving into the theme of embodied identity, the film presents movement as a tapestry of collective experience interwoven with the singular expression of each individual.
